The Right Reverend Donald M. Ashman

Rector

Bishop Ashman attended parochial schools from the first grade through the twelfth grade. He earned his AA degree at Glendale College and his BA in history at Long Beach State University. He did graduate work at UCLA in Greek and Latin where he earned his California State Teaching Credential and taught classics and history in the Glendale Unified School district for thirty five years. He was made a deacon on December 18, 1980, and ordained a priest on May 1, 1983. He assisted at the Church of Our Saviour and the Holy Apostles and was called to be its rector in 1984. On August 15, 2012, he was consecrated Suffragan Bishop of the Diocese of the Western States, Province of Christ the King and in 2016, he was elected its third Bishop Ordinary. His favorite memories were his youth camping (and fishing) trips to the Sierra Nevada Mountains, his home visitations and sick calls, and simply leading the worship of our Blessed Lord.

The Reverend Boyd R. Britton

Vicar

Father Boyd R. Britton was educated at public and private schools in the Boston area, including Roxbury Latin and Emerson College, as well as two terms at Princeton University. He began his radio career in 1964.

Entering the Army in 1967, he graduated from the Defense Information and Defense Language Schools, and served in Vietnam. Since 1970 he has been a broadcaster, mainly in L.A., and for 27 years was morning newsman at KROQ-FM (as "Doc on the Roq") ending in 2015.

He began active participation in Anglican worship in 1996, was called to the diaconate in 2010 and ordained a priest in 2013. He serves as vicar in the Church of Our Saviour, Santa Barbara, as well as Church of Our Saviour and the Holy Apostles, Los Angeles. He seeks God's will and word and has been blessed by them, especially in the works of C.S. Lewis and George Macdonald.

The Reverend Philip Ternahan

Assisting

The Reverend Philip Ternahan was born in Hood River, Oregon, and raised on
a farm on the Washington side of the Columbia River. He graduated from
Columbia High School in White Salmon, Washington, in 1965 and from
Central Washington State College (now University) in 1969.
He taught high school English in the Peace Corps in Antigua and Barbuda
from 1969-1971, followed by a year teaching for the Government of Antigua in
1971-1972. Returning to the Northwest with his bride and daughter, he worked
three years in the timber industry before enlisting in the Navy in 1975, where
he served 24 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer (E-7). His Navy
decorations include: the Navy Commendation Medal, four Good Conduct
Medals, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with device, four Navy Achievement
Medals, and National Defense Service Medal.
After military retirement, he trained civilian Seabees as Training Officer for a
1,000-person workforce for 15 more years, totaling 39 years in federal service
until 2020. He then earned an M.A. in Humanities from California State
University, Dominguez Hills, became an Anglican in the late 1990s, was
ordained deacon in 2007 and priest in 2009, and served in Ventura,
California, as vestry member, associate rector, and rector. Since 2022, he has
been part of the Church of Our Saviour clergy, supporting the Santa Barbara
mission church and diocesan Zoom services. He and his wife reside in
Ventura, California, and have two children, three grandchildren, and two
great-grandchildren.
